Sleep

A sea of light comes to me softly

entering the room, stirring my lover into my arms

Protesting sleep I lift my head silently

seeing tears in my eyes she comes towards me

asking my forgiveness

unworthy of her love

I drop to my knees to surrender what is mine

and ask for what is hers to bestow.

I regret what I have become

Are you different from me or am I different to you

I can escape but the price is high

As I am neither a fool nor heir apparent

for I know I am none of these, but misunderstood by both of us

My only true friend is a mirror

I am broken and no one can see
